Type of cuisine: Modern British

Average price: £40.00

For a quarter of a century the Witchery has been renowned as the Edinburgh restaurant for those looking to experience exceptional food, wine and service within the most romantic and dramatic of settings

Located in an historic sixteenth-century building at the gates of Edinburgh Castle, James Thomson's Witchery Restaurant is the most atmospheric and spectacular dining destination in the city. Hidden within an historic building at the castle gates, the unique location, stunning decor and legendary food have ensured the Witchery has become an Edinburgh institution, much loved by its celebrity fans, loyal locals and visitors to the city alike. The Witchery source the very best of Scotland's produce such as Angus beef, lamb, game and seafood, which then features on their classic menu in a relaxed and unfussy style. Scottish lobster and rock oysters regularly feature alongside Witchery classic dishes such as hot smoked salmon with leeks and hollandaise or Angus beef fillet with smoked garlic broth. The Witchery has developed an internationally renowned reputation for its wines gaining a prestigious Wine Spectator Best Award of Excellence in 2004 among the many other awards it has collected for its famous cellar. Its comprehensive list of almost 1,000 wines covers all of the great wine producing areas, varieties, prices and styles with a special selection of seventeen available by the glass. Whether you dine in the rich baroque surroundings of the original oak-pannelled Witchery, or among the elegant charms of the Secret Garden, the Witchery by the Castle is dining at its most magical.

Customer reviews for The Witchery Restaurant

This is not just a restaurant this is an eating experience, my budget is tight, but when it comes to the Witchery I thoroughly indulge myself and my partner. Food cooked served and presented to its finest glory and the almighty bible of wine lists lays testament to the high standards that are reached and all within the must astoundingly beautiful of settings. In short if I could recommend a single restaurant to visit in the British Isles then it would be the Witchery in Edinburgh (quickly followed by the Voodoo Cafe in Darlington).
