Located in the Royal Clarence, reputedly the oldest hotel in the UK, Michael Caines at Abode Exeter has firmly established itself as one of Exeter's best fine dining restaurants with its spacious and beautiful dining room setting the scene perfectly. Whilst elegant however, the dining room does not feel overly formal and sets the tone for Michael Caines cuisine that is similarly considered and produced from the freshest seasonal and local produce and ingredients. Modern European in style, the menu is vibrant and exciting and it's easy to see the quality that Michael is so famous for. Signature starters include Roast Brixham scallops, parsnip and vanilla purée, roasted parsnip and a ginger jus or Cannelloni of Start Bay crab, braised fennel, sauce vièrge and shellfish bisque whilst mains deliver creations such as roast saddle and loin of local lamb, confit shoulder, fondant potato, onion and thyme purée, with tapenade sauce or Slow poached brill, scallops, baby leeks, wild mushrooms and chive butter sauce. The wine list is organised by grape variety to facilitate understanding and selection, and the highly trained staff are always ready to assist with advice on what wines go best with which dishes in order to enhance your dining experience. Michael Caines at Abode Exeter has established a reputation locally for serving the best 2- or 3-course lunch in the city, with a short lunch menu which changes daily or weekly, depending on what is available and in season, and gives a real taste of the restaurant's stylish and high quality cuisine at extremely reasonable prices.
