The Yew Tree Inn is a beautifully renovated 17th century country pub and restaurant situated close to Highclere Castle in Buckinghamshire and boasts a very famous owner indeed – none other than über chef Marco Pierre White. The dining room is a fabulously homely setting and consists of several interconnecting rooms where inglenook fireplaces and ancient beams create a cosy feel. As for Marco’s Anglo French menu, rustic, unfussy dishes are the order of the day, all of course receiving that special touch from such an acclaimed chef. Starters might include a panache of foie gras with duck egg or Welsh rarebit followed by main courses such as roast venison with smoked bacon cubes, Savoy cabbage and red wine jus or skate with lemon, capers, brown shrimp, cucumber and parsley. Desserts are equally as delectable with good old fashioned rice pudding served with strawberry and raspberry compote always a favourite. The wine list has been kept relatively short but includes a variety of affordable choices. Of course dining at The Yew Tree Inn is no ordinary pub dining experience, the food is out of this world and certainly comes with the MPW stamp. Well worthy of its reputation.
