L’Eglise is a traditional French restaurant perched along Church Road in Hove. Opened in December 2007 by husband and wife team Julia and Jean-Christophe Martin, L’Eglise brings an authentic taste of France to this seaside town, adjoining the buzzing resort of Brighton. The dining room has a lovely authentic feel to it with plenty of solid wood and pewter and the vibe is pure French brasserie. Head Chef Jean Yves Guiomar hails from Brittany and has worked at some very prestigious venues including Le Deuxieme and the House of Lords. His classic French menu oozes rich and bold flavours, where each and every dish is prepared with love and passion. Starters include a classic French onion soup topped with Gruyere cheese and croutons and Burgundy snails with garlic and parsley butter. As for the main courses the seared lemon sole with parsley and lemon butter and ratte potatoes and classic duck confit served with wild garlic mash and jus are always winners. The French wine list is well chosen and matches the menu well and the magnificent farmhouse cheeseboard of French and British varieties rounds things off perfectly. L’Eglise has won the hearts of the residents of Hove and Brighton and the word is now out.
