Birmingham's newest Indian restaurant Itihaas offers authentic Royal Indian cuisine and boasts a VIP area complete with its own butler

Itihaas Indian restaurant in Birmingham rewrites the history books with the introduction of a new, exciting and truly genuine Indian dining experience, rarely found outside of Asia. Contemporary meets traditional in this smart, sophisticated, privately owned venue which sets out to combine history with exclusivity. Clean, crisp décor complete with plate glass and slate finished walls mixes seamlessly with 18th and 19th century Indian artefacts. Step through the front doors of Itihaas and you are greeted by beautiful hostesses, dressed in modern black, silk saris. A cosy lounge area and licensed bar lead the way in to the Colonial Room with seating for 70 diners overlooking the canal side – floor to ceiling windows open on to a terrace for entertaining on warm, summer evenings. Downstairs the Maharaja Suite (seats 60) is luxurious with opulent mood lighting and an alcove decorated with more Indian treasures and segregated by Mughal colonnade, perfect for a small party or gathering. To complete the regal feel of ITIHAAS and behind two three-hundred year old Indian wooden doors is the Tiffin Room (seats 12), complete with bar, library and your very own dedicated butler! Mouth-watering dishes take their influences from North India, Mumbai, Chinese Fusion and Kenya following the traditions of Mogul and Maharaja India, where food was perceived as a pleasure rather than a necessity. Delight your taste buds with authentic Royal Indian cuisine including Thali – a platter of five delicious dishes served with breads and salads, a delightful way to sample the many choices available, or a perfect starter for two. Wonderful food, attentive service and a stunning ambience will leave you remembering Itihaas for a long time after your visit, which is probably why this is one of Birmingham's most popular Indian restaurants. Booking in advance is highly advised.
