Heston Blumenthal’s fabulous Hinds Head in the village of Bray in Berkshire is a brilliant British country pub and restaurant. The village of Bray is a veritable oasis for Michelin starred restaurants, and although the holder of numerous awards such as the Bib Gourmand and recommendations from the Michelin Guide, the Hinds Head is a simple and down to earth pub restaurant serving the very best in British grub, albeit with the culinary magic of super Chef Heston Blumenthal. The pub is a beautiful Tudor building complete with charming low ceilings, wooden beams and wood panelling and the real log fires offer a cosy glow in colder times. Blumenthal has worked closely with food historians from the Tudor kitchens at Hampton Court Palace to create a menu celebrating the delights of the British culinary past. The menu changes according to the seasons and market availability but just some of the outstanding dishes you might find are duck and smoked guinea fowl terrine with spiced apples; oxtail and kidney pudding; chicken, ham and leek pie with mustard sauce and tea smoked salmon. Desserts are homely and simply divine such as treacle tart with milk ice cream or banana Eton mess. The atmosphere at the Hinds Head is completely unpretentious and wonderfully relaxed, typical of a great British country pub.
