The idyllic riverside setting of Oxford's Cherwell Boathouse is the perfect place to watch people messing about on the river whilst you tuck into some simply glorious modern English dishes such as wood pigeon, bacon & watercress salad with quince jelly or a trio of Mersey native oysters thermidor, red wine vinegar & tarragon pesto. Move swiftly onto seasonal delights such as grilled Turbot, sauted ceps, sweetcorn, Jerusalem artichokes & lobster emulsion or rump of Hereford beef with Hook Norton battered marrow and finish with green tea bread & butter pudding, tarragon ice-cream or hot apple & English cider soup with apple fritters. The Cherwell Boathouse's set menu is equally inspired with choices such as crispy Cornish squid, followed by saffron Rrsotto with aubergine caviar and an orange brulee (Lunch £23/ Dinner £25). Their wine list was in the Top UK Restaurant Wine Lists with pages of pedigree selections spanning the globe, mouth-watering possibilities from the French regions and ample choice by the glass.
